MECSEK RANGE

Peasant villages settled in the 400-500 m. hills attract those looking for good village tourism. The air is clean, the protected flora is colourful, and the dishes are tasty in the villages surrounding the Zengö (682 m.), the highest point in the range.

Magyaregy-Máré castle: pentagonal knights' castle, castle history and natural history exhibition. The VILLAGE AND BUTCHER'S SHOP MUSEUM (Kossuth Lajos u. 12/a.) is in a wattle wall peasant house. OLD VILLAGE GERMAN ETHNIC MINORITY REGIONAL HOUSE (Kossuth Lajos u. 38.): an exhibition of the wood turner's craft in this historical peasant house.
Szászvár: exhibition of the 175-year history of coal mining in the MUSEUM OF MINING (Szászvár, Kun Béla u. 58.). Kárász: Functioning pottery workshop.
Mecseknádasd: medieval and Baroque historical monuments: 13th century ST. STEPHEN'S CHAPEL with 15th century frescos (Cemetery), ruins of the Réka Castle, GERMAN ETHNIC MINORITY REGIONAL HOUSE (Munkácsy Mihály u. 7.): exhibition of the life of ethnic Germans settled from the Rhine region, honey cake and candle making workshop, cooper's tools, pottery, and local history.
Zengövárkony: finds from the prehistoric settlement in Pécsvárad Castle. REGIONAL HOUSE (Kossuth Lajos u. 6. peasant house): front room, ethnographical exhibition in the kitchen, weaving loom, stables, pig sties, barn. Szelidgesztenyés: 28-hectare ancient chestnut forest.
Kisujbánya, Püspökszentlászlo (arboretum) and Obánya: idyllic region of the Obánya Valley.
